Two high school students in Manokwari, West Papua, were attacked by unknown assailants using a wooden beam after breaking their fast at Petrus Kafiar Beach in Manokwari. The male student, FR (18), died, while his female companion, SAP (16), sustained bruises.

‘For the incident yesterday, the victims FR and SAP were sitting along the beach waiting to break their fast. When they had finished breaking their fast, they were approached by a person they did not know and hit him with a wooden beam,’ said AKP Agung Gumara Samosir, head of criminal investigation at Manokwari City Police, as quoted by detikSulsel on Thursday (5 March 2026).

The assault occurred at Petrus Kafiar Beach, Manokwari, on Wednesday (5 March 2026) around 6:30 p.m. local time. The attacker arrived and kicked the chairs they were using. ‘FR stood up and asked what wrong,’ he said. ‘Then he was struck by the unknown assailant with the wooden beam.’

AGung said FR collapsed and fainted immediately. SAP cried out for help. ‘When SAP cried out for help, the suspect hit her in the eye, kicked the victim, and struck him with the wooden beam.’

He added that FR was taken to hospital but died; SAP is receiving medical treatment.
