Two Groups Clash in Makassar, with Mothers Also Getting Involved
A clash between two groups took place on Abubakar Lambogo Street (Ablam), Makassar district, Makassar city, South Sulawesi. Mothers were involved, pointing at one another and defending their respective children.
Two groups of residents reportedly clashed using stones and firecrackers at around 6pm local time on Thursday (15 October). The groups involved were Jor-joran and Loner.
“Mothers also helped provoke the situation, defending their children and pointing at one another in support of their respective groups,” Makassar Police Chief Mustari said, as quoted by detikSulsel on Friday (16 October 2026).
Mustari said mothers from both groups shouted accusations at one another. Their presence made the atmosphere at the scene noisier and more tense.
“There were more mothers there. They were shouting at one another. They all came and said, ‘You’re the one in the wrong,’ pointing at one another,” he added.
He said the clash began with mutual taunting. Members of each group took offence, and the confrontation escalated.
“It happened around sunset. They started provoking one another, and eventually Loner and Jor-joran attacked each other,” Mustari said.
“As a result, they threw stones, arrows, Molotov cocktails and firecrackers. These landed in a vacant lot, which caught fire because of the long grass and a pile of wood. But the fire was brought under control,” he added.
