Two foreigners to be deported

BANDUNG: Two foreigners, a Thai and an Italian, will be deported by the Bandung Immigration Office for overstaying their visas.

Head of the immigration office Tri Adi Dharma said the two foreigners -- Amran Samoh, 23, and Valerio Cogrossi, 55 -- were arrested on Dec. 29 and Dec. 30 in different places.

"We have contacted their embassies in Jakarta and they will send them home to their respective countries," Tri said on Monday.

Cogrossi, a former employee of a private company, did not extend his visa-on-arrival for over five months, while Amran -- a student at a private university in Bandung -- did not extend his visa for three months.

According to data from the West Java Justice and Human Rights office's immigration division, at least 34 foreigners were deported in 2004 for overstaying their visas and other violations. -- JP
