Two flight routes at H Hasan Aroeboesman Airport in Ende, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), were cancelled today due to strong winds. Airport management confirmed that these cancellations were not caused by the dispersal of volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores.

β€œThe cancellation of the Labuan Bajo-Ende-Labuan Bajo and Labuan Bajo-Ende-Kupang routes was due to strong winds, not the effects of the Mount Lewotobi eruption,” stated the Head of H Hasan Aroeboesman Ende Airport, Hariyanto, on Saturday (6/6/2026).

Despite the cancellations, Hariyanto noted that airport operations in Ende are currently running normally.

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted again this morning at 10:07 WITA, with an ash column observed at approximately 1,500 metres above the peak, or about 3,084 metres above sea level. Herman Yoseph S Mboro, an official from the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Observation Post, explained that the ash column appeared grey and thick, with volcanic ash drifting towards the west and northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 22.2 mm and a duration of approximately 3 minutes and 48 seconds.

Authorities have advised residents to avoid all activities within a 5-kilometre radius of the eruption centre. Residents near the volcano are also urged to remain vigilant against potential rain-induced lahar floods in rivers originating from the peak, particularly in the areas of Dulipali, Padang Pasir, Nobo, Nurabelen, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru, and Nawakote.

Meanwhile, the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has resulted in the temporary closure of flight operations at Frans Seda Maumere Airport, as volcanic ash has spread towards the Sikka Regency, NTT. The Head of Frans Seda Maumere Airport, Parthaian Pandjaitan, stated that operations are suspended until 06:00 WITA on 7 June 2026.
