Two Firefighters Exhausted While Battling Blaze in Gambir, One Taken to Hospital

Two firefighting personnel were evacuated while battling a residential fire in Gambir, Central Jakarta. The personnel became exhausted while fighting the blaze, which produced thick smoke.

“For now there are no civilian casualties, only our members, because the smoke was quite thick, yes, the smoke was quite thick and they fought on, becoming exhausted,” said Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency Head Syarifudin at the scene of the fire on Monday (31/8/2026).

Syarifudin added that one of the personnel was taken to hospital, while the other was already in a safe condition.

“In the end one was taken to hospital, and one, thank God, is safe,” he added.

Syarifudin said the fire at the location has now been contained. He explained that firefighting efforts were initially hampered by the very rapid spread of the flames.

“The latest update for the fire in Gambir District is that it has been contained, with only cooling down remaining as of 16.17 WIB. We received the report at 13.40, and by 13.46 we had already begun work. However, because the area is densely populated and the fire was already large, the spread was very rapid. In the end we tried to block it and, thank God, it has now been contained,” he said.

The cause and chronology of the fire are not yet known. There is also no information yet on whether there were any casualties from the fire.
