Two Figures Deemed Capable of Reforming National Legal System After Jampidsus Case
Jakarta – Young Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) figure Khalilur R Abdullah Sahlawiy, known as Gus Lilur, has stated that the emergence of various speculations and wild assumptions following the naming of former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Ardiansyah as a suspect has the potential to further damage public trust in law enforcement institutions. He explained that various wild narratives have developed in public and have created a perception of friction between law enforcement agencies. According to him, this situation must not be allowed to continue as it risks triggering new polarisation within society. “Over the past few days, wild assumptions have been developing that poison the cognition of the Indonesian people. Various theories have emerged, dragging in many state institutions. This poison cannot be countered merely with denials or press releases, but by presenting figures who are still trusted by the public,” Gus Lilur said in a written statement on Thursday, 16 July 2026. To restore public confidence, he proposed that President Prabowo Subianto strengthen the governance of law enforcement in accordance with its proper corridor. One of the points he highlighted was the need to transfer the leadership of the Forest Area Stabilisation Task Force (Satgas PKH). He recommended that the leadership of the task force be shifted from the Minister of Defence to the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam). Gus Lilur also suggested that President Prabowo appoint Mahfud MD as Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs and Busyro Muqoddas as Deputy Coordinating Minister. He assessed that Mahfud MD possesses deep experience and understanding of law enforcement apparatus governance, while Busyro Muqoddas is known as a figure with a strong track record in eradicating corruption. He believes this pairing could strengthen the coordination of anti-corruption efforts while simultaneously restoring public trust in law enforcement institutions. On the other hand, he reminded President Prabowo not to be trapped in the perception of siding with a particular group or institution, as the head of state must appear as a leader who stands above all political interests and factions.
