TWO factions in the Surakarta Palace are requesting the Indonesian State Audit Board (BPK) to conduct a financial audit. The Purbaya faction is requesting the BPK to audit the financial records of the Surakarta Palace for the period 2018-2025, during the leadership of Pakoe Boewono XIII, who appointed Panembahan Agung Tedjowulan.

This was stated by Kanjeng Pangeran Arya Singanagoro, as the spokesperson for PB XIV Purbaya, in response to the request made by Panembahan Agung Tedjowulan to the BPK RI, which seeks to audit the financial records of the PB XIII era, specifically for the period 2018-2025.

“Regarding the request for a financial audit of the palace, we strongly support it. We are very open to it. However, the audit (by the BPK) should not only focus on the period 2018-2025; it should cover all periods,” Singanagoro told reporters on Wednesday afternoon (February 25, 2025) at the Surakarta Palace.

According to him, the BPK RI should not only examine the financial records of the last eight years but also audit the previous periods. Moreover, they also have or have found a lot of data on financial contributions from the government during previous periods.

“So, if the goal is transparency, then everything should be transparent. It shouldn’t be used to attack or for other purposes,” Singanagoro added diplomatically.

He also mentioned the issue of grant funds and the revitalization of the Panggung Sanggbuwana cultural heritage site, which, according to him, should comply with existing regulatory mechanisms. He noted that there was no academic study conducted during the construction process.

“This includes where the funds come from and how much they are. This certainly needs to be audited, even though the results are quite good, but how the funds flow,” he emphasized.

On February 21, Panembahan Agung Tedjowulan, as the executor or manager of the Surakarta Palace, who was appointed by the Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, sent a letter to the BPK RI. The letter requested the financial audit of the Surakarta Palace for the period 2018-2025.

According to KPA Pakoenagoro, as the spokesperson for Panembahan Agung Tedjowulan, the audit request was made to clarify the responsibilities of management, following the appointment of Tedjo as the manager of the Mataram Islamic heritage palace, as authorized by the Indonesian government.

“The requested financial audit is crucial to begin the management of the Surakarta Palace so that the leadership of Gusti Tedjowulan is free from responsibility for the financial management of the previous leadership era,” said Tedjowulan’s spokesperson, KP Pakoenagoro, when confirmed on Monday evening (February 23, 2026).

The letter, numbered 02/SKMK.8.2026/PAKKSH/2026, dated January 21, 2026, to the Chairman of the BPK RI, essentially stated that after receiving the Decision of the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 8 of 2026 regarding the appointment as the Executor of Protection, Development, and/or Utilization of the Surakarta Kasunanan Palace Cultural Heritage Area as a National Cultural Heritage Area.

Tedjowulan, as the Executor of the Surakarta Palace, who is in charge of managing assets and assistance, is carrying out his duties, and at the same time, two figures claim to be Paku Buwono XIV. So far, none of them have been recognized as the definitive king and acknowledged by the government.

“Therefore, a financial audit is crucial to begin the management of the Surakarta Palace so that the leadership of Gusti Tedjowulan is free from responsibility for the financial management of the previous leadership era,” Pakoenegoro concluded. (H-3)
