Two escaped jailbirds arrested
JAKARTA (JP): Police managed to capture two of four prisoners, who sneaked away from their cell at the Ciracas police station in East Jakarta early Sunday morning, within an hour after their attempted escape, an officer said.
Chief of East Jakarta Police Sr. Supt. Hidayat Fabanyo said the prisoners, identified as Cipto Santoso and Oris Tario, were captured not far from the police station.
"Meanwhile, the other two prisoners, identified as Fredy Ismail and Erianto, are still at large," he said.
He said the group, who were allegedly involved in an armed robbery last September, managed to cut the bars of their cell, which is located at the corner of the building, at about 2:30 a.m.
They climbed over the back wall of the police station complex but fortunately two locals sitting at the back of the police station, saw them escaping and reported it to duty police officers.
Hidayat said eight police officers, who were on duty that night, had been questioned and would be punished for their carelessness. (07)
