Two employees have fallen victim to a fire at the Trans Home building materials store on Jalan Jogja-Solo, Berbah District, Sleman. Both individuals were found deceased.

“We found them in a state of respiratory and cardiac arrest. They have since been transported to Bhayarga Hospital,” said Dedi Prasetyo, the coordinator of the Sleman SAR alert unit from Basarnas Yogyakarta, to reporters at the scene on Thursday (1/10/2026) evening.

Dedi stated that the joint firefighting team conducted operations starting at 14:00 WIB. Initial reports indicated that two employees were trapped inside.

“We coordinated the evacuation because initial information suggested two people were trapped inside. Our priority was to ensure the location was sterile and safe from fire and smoke before proceeding with the evacuation,” Dedi explained.

Dedi further noted that both victims were evacuated within 15 minutes. “The first victim was evacuated in approximately eight minutes, and the second in about seven minutes, totaling 15 minutes. The victims were found on the third floor, near the staircase.”

“The victims have been identified as Mrs W and Mrs S. The cause of the fire cannot yet be confirmed; we will coordinate further with the police,” Dedi added.

Nawa Murtianto, Head of Operations and Investigation for the Sleman Satpol-PP Fire Department, explained that the burnt area covered approximately 2,000 square metres. “Due to the difficult situation, extra handling was required. There were many household goods present, which are highly flammable,” he told journalists at the site.

It was previously reported that the Trans Home building materials store, located on Jalan Jogja-Solo, Kalitirto Village, Berbah District, Sleman, caught fire this afternoon. “That is correct, it happened this afternoon. Firefighting efforts are still ongoing,” confirmed Ari Hadi, the Village Head of Kalitirto, when asked for confirmation on Thursday (1/10) afternoon.
