Two drowned in river accident

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Two people died after they were swept away by a strong current in the Sembahe River in Medan.

The accident occurred on Monday when Hariyadi, 20 and his friend Bala Krisna, 22, were swimming in the middle of the river. Suddenly a strong current from the upper reaches of river swept them downstream.

Their bodies were recovered by local residents a few hours later, several kilometers from the site of the incident. Sembahe River is a popular tourist spot in Medan. -- Antara
