Two drown in Bali
DENPASAR: At least two people drowned and one is missing
following heavy rains on the island of Bali over the past week.
Police said the victims were Desak Putu Raka Adnyani, 35, a
resident of Penyaringan village in Jembrana regency in the west
of Bali, and Ni Wayan Jeni, 25, a resident of Berembeg village in
Selemadeg district, Tabanan. The missing person has been named as
Ni Wayan Sundri, 47, also of Berembeg.
Ni Wayan Sundri was swept away while crossing a river on
Saturday. Her body has yet to be found.
Jembrana regent Ida Bagus Indugosa estimated the rains had
caused losses of Rp 6.5 billion. Heavy damage was inflicted on
seven bridges, three of which were swept away, six dams and water
pipe projects in nine villages. The rains are also thought to
have destroyed crops planted on fields over a 265 hectare area.
At least 45 homes were destroyed and one temple was also
damaged. Governor Dewa Made Beratha has paid a visit to the
affected areas and has provided them with Rp 15 million in aid
and 10 tons of rice.
