Two Dompu-born Minors Arrested by Police After Being Caught Taking Almost 1 kg of Methamphetamine in Sumbawa

Two minors from Dompu, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), were arrested by the police after being spotted taking a package of methamphetamine weighing nearly one kilogram in Sumbawa Regency, NTB. They claimed to have been ordered by a neighbour and promised money as a reward. ‘Arrested on suspicion of acting as drug couriers for methamphetamine,’ said the Head of the Sumbawa Police’s Narcotics Unit, Iptu Harirustaman, in a statement on Saturday, 23 May 2026. Harirustaman explained that the two were arrested during an operation on Jalan Lintas Badas, Sumbawa Regency, on Wednesday, 20 May. At the time, they were riding side-by-side on a motorcycle. ‘They briefly tried to evade. But because traffic was heavy, they stopped their vehicle,’ Harirustaman added. After intercepting the two, officers searched them. Police found 10 packages of methamphetamine kept in a blue bag by the two youths. ‘During initial questioning, one of the suspects said they were instructed by a person with initials PW just to take the bag and did not know it contained meth,’ he explained. Because they were not cooperative, the youths were brought to the Sumbawa Police Headquarters for further questioning. On Thursday, 21 May, they admitted taking the illegal items after being told by their neighbour in Dompu, initials TF. ‘They also admitted being promised a large cash reward by TF to collect a package of meth with a weight of 898 grams in the Alas district, Sumbawa Regency,’ he added. To police, the two youths said they briefly met two unknown persons (OTK) at a shop in the Buer district area. At that time, the bag was swapped before they continued their journey. Police then conducted a follow-up and investigation to the location believed to be the hiding place of the drug controller initially identified as TF in Dompu. In coordination with Dompu Police, TF was no longer at the location. ‘It is suspected TF fled west toward Lombok Island,’ Harirustaman said. At present, the two youths who are facing criminal charges (ABH) have been secured and are being held at the Lombok Tengah Children’s Social Welfare Institution (LPKA). Meanwhile, police are still pursuing TF, suspected to be the controller and supplier of the drugs.
