Two directors sentenced to 7 years in East Lombok Chromebook case
Mataram (ANTARA) - The Corruption Court Panel at the Mataram District Court in West Nusa Tenggara sentenced two defendants in the corruption case of procuring Chromebook laptops for the East Lombok Education and Culture Office in 2022.
Presiding Judge Lalu Moh. Sandi Iramaya, during the verdict hearing in Mataram on Monday evening, imposed a seven-year prison sentence on Libert Hutahaean, Director of PT Temprina Media Grafika, and a seven-year and six-month sentence on Lia Anggawari, Director of PT Dinamika Indo Media.
“The court sentences Libert Hutahaean to seven years’ imprisonment and Lia Anggawari to seven years and six months’ imprisonment,” he stated.
In addition to the prison terms, the panel imposed fines of Rp500 million each, with a subsidiary of 100 days’ detention.
The judge stated that if the defendants fail to pay the restitution within one month after the verdict gains legal force, the prosecutor is authorised to seize and auction their assets.
“If the assets are insufficient, it will be replaced with three years and six months’ imprisonment,” he added.
In the considerations of the verdict, the panel stated that both defendants were proven to have committed corruption offences causing substantial state losses of approximately Rp9.2 billion.
The judge assessed that the acts were carried out through conditioning suppliers in the e-catalogue system and procurement not from official vendors.
In the verdict’s explanation, the judge also noted that the procurement culminated in the active role of PT Temprina Media Grafika, a printing services company still part of the Jawa Pos Group, in arranging the auction winner.
Therefore, the judge stated in the operative part of the verdict that due to the criminal acts causing losses of Rp9.2 billion, both defendants were proven to have violated the primary indictment of the public prosecutor.
The primary indictment relates to Article 603 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes, as amended by Article 20 letters (a, b, and c) of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.
