Two die in fire at security post

JAYAPURA, Papua: Two people were killed in a fire at dawn on Thursday in the capital of Papua province, Jayapura.

The two unidentified people had allegedly been drunk and fallen asleep in a security post at the Bank Tabungan Negara housing complex. While they were sleeping, the post, which was made from wood, caught on fire. Local residents had tried to save the two, but the fire was out of control. Some hours later, several police personnel took their bodies to Jayapura hospital for post mortem.

The cause of the fire was not clear, although some residents suggested an improperly extinguished cigarette may have started it. -- Antara
