Two die as car plunges into river

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Two employees of the local office of
the Ministry of Education and Culture died and another was badly
injured when their car plunged 30 meters into the Tajum River on
Wednesday.

The Antara news agency reported that four other people were
slightly injured in the accident which occurred in the Pancasan
village, Ajibarang subdistrict. Those who died were school
superintendents Raswan and Jahidin.

Eny Endarwati, also a superintendent, is being treated at the
Banyumas Public Hospital for serious injuries.

Capt. Gde Sugianyar at the Banyumas police office said the
employees were on the way home from an official function and a
breaking of the fast gathering in Banyumas.

Their car reportedly passed another car, which had its
headlights on bright, from the opposite direction. Blinded
temporarily, driver Kusworo lost control of the vehicle. (swe)
