Two detained for bank heist
PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: East Java police have arrested two men suspected of taking part in the Rp 1.2 billion robbery at the Surabaya branch of Bank Panin during the Idul Fitri holiday, Antara reported yesterday.
National Police Chief Gen. Banurusman Astrosemitro, during a visit here, confirmed to reporters that the two men had been arrested on Tuesday night.
They were identified by their initials, SG, a bank employee in charge of security, and AJ, an outside locksmith.
From their interrogation, the police concluded that five men were involved in the heist. The other three are known to the police, but are still at large.
Banurusman said police seized a number of bank notes from the two arrested suspects but he declined to say how much and whether the money came from the bank heist. (emb)
