JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Two of the four defendants in the sulphuric acid attack on KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus, namely Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko and First Lieutenant (Lettu) Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, were evasive and lied regarding the burns they sustained.

It is known that Edi and Budhi were riding together on a motorbike when they threw the sulphuric acid at Andrie Yunus. However, parts of their bodies were also affected by the splash of the liquid.

Commander of the Headquarters Detachment (Dandenma) Bais TNI, Colonel Inf Heri Heryadi, explained that Edi and Budhi were initially evasive when asked about the cause of the charred and blackened wounds on their faces and bodies.

“We tried to check their condition, we asked the individuals concerned, we asked why (the wounds), and when (they got them), their answers were somewhat convoluted. The first question was why, (they answered) splashed with hot water. But there was something odd there, both of them were splashed with hot water,” Heri said in the courtroom of the Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

Heri explained that initially, Edi and Budhi claimed the injuries they suffered were not due to splashes of sulphuric acid during the attack on Andrie Yunus, whose case was viral at the time.

“Then, I asked more deeply, they just said ready wrong, ready wrong, finally we, I just left it. I ordered Captain Suyanto (the Pharmaceutical Officer of the Pharmaceutical and Health Equipment Unit of the Bais TNI Health Service) to continue the treatment, we returned to the room,” he said.

Feeling suspicious, Heri then requested a deeper investigation into the two.

“After in the new room, we contacted the Director (Diketur D) to request that the individuals concerned be thoroughly investigated. We asked for assistance to investigate them, because we didn’t have the equipment, our equipment at Denma happened to have the security operations officer empty,” Heri explained.

Heri added that Edi’s face condition at that time was charred, with an estimated burn covering 80 percent due to the sulphuric acid splash.

“So black like that, permission. If we’ve experienced it, if indeed splashed with hot water, it usually blisters, this is charred,” Heri replied.

“80 percent?” asked the judge.

“Possibly around 80 percent, ready,” Heri answered.

Previously, four Indonesian National Army (TNI) personnel were charged with throwing sulphuric acid at KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus in the Central Jakarta area.

The four defendants are Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko, First Lieutenant (Lettu) Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetya, and First Lieutenant Sami Lakka.

“The defendants considered brother Andrie Yunus to have insulted the TNI institution and even trampled on the TNI institution,” said Military Prosecutor Lieutenant Colonel Corps of Law (Chk) TNI Muhammad Iswadi in the trial at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta, on Wednesday (29/4/2026).

The four defendants are charged with multiple articles, namely Article 469 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code as the primary charge, Article 468 paragraph (1) as subsidiary, and Articles 467 paragraphs (1) and (2) as further subsidiary, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023.
