Two defendants in 58 kg methamphetamine case in Jambi face life imprisonment
Jambi (ANTARA) - Public prosecutors from the Jambi District Attorney’s Office demanded life imprisonment for two defendants in a case involving the alleged possession of more than 58 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine at the Jambi District Court on Thursday. The trial, presided over by Chief Judge Irse Yanda Perima with members Hendrawan Nainggolan and Azhari Prianda Ginting, heard the prosecution’s sentencing demands. The prosecutors stated that defendants Agit Putra Ramadhan and Juniardo were legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing the narcotics offence as charged. “Declaring the defendants proven guilty and demanding a sentence of life imprisonment,” the prosecutor said during the hearing. Evidence presented in the case included 58 plastic packages of methamphetamine with a net weight of 58,211.77 grams, or more than 58 kilograms. Also seized were several mobile phones of various brands, a blue-green suitcase, and two four-wheeled vehicles believed to have been used in the defendants’ activities — a white minibus and a black minibus — along with related documents. The defendants were charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, as well as other relevant criminal provisions. The prosecutor noted aggravating circumstances, stating that the defendants’ actions contravened the government’s programme to eradicate narcotics and had the potential to damage the younger generation. The defendants’ legal counsel, Fatma Dewi Anggi, stated that the defence would be submitted in writing at the next hearing.
