Two Dead in 10-Vehicle Pile-Up on Cipularang: Pickup Driver and Helper
Two people died in a multi-vehicle crash involving 10 vehicles at KM 93 of the Cipularang Toll Road toward Jakarta. The two fatalities were the driver and the pickup’s helper. ‘The two fatalities are the driver and the pickup’s helper. Serious and minor injuries are still being treated,’ said Joko Prihantono, head of Cipularang’s Integrated Patrol and Traffic Management Centre, in a statement on Thursday (5 March 2026).
Joko detailed the 10 vehicles involved: a container truck, a pickup, a truck, a Toyota Rush, a Daihatsu Sigra, a tronton with a box, a Hiace, a Toyota Raize, a Mazda Biante and a Toyota Agya.
At the scene, officers remained at location. Police said the crash was triggered by braking problems on the container truck.
“Suspected that the container vehicle with plate number B-9367-UEL experienced braking problems,” he said.
Traffic was congested for about 3 km.
The incident occurred on Thursday (5 March) at 20:15 WIB. The traffic jam stretched from KM 96 to KM 93.
A Jasa Marga call centre official, Nugroho, said evacuation of victims and vehicles involved was ongoing. As a result, traffic was heavy from KM 96 to KM 93.
“Condition at the scene, according to information we have, there is a little congestion from KM 96-93,” Nugroho said when contacted at 22:42 WIB.
Nugroho said there was no road closure at the site. He noted the congestion was caused by the evacuation process.
“Normal conditions; only congestion due to evacuation,” he added.
Nugroho said the relief operation was ongoing, with several vehicles already evacuated.
“Information we have indicates evacuation is still underway; several vehicles have already been evacuated but remain under treatment,” he said.
