Two Dead as Container Truck Brake Failure Triggers Chain Collision on Cipularang Toll Road at KM 93B

On Thursday evening, 5 March 2026, a severe multi-vehicle crash occurred on the Cipularang Toll Road, KM 93B toward Jakarta. The incident, which happened around 20:18 WIB, involved at least ten vehicles and resulted in two fatalities at the scene.

A container truck, plate B 9367 UEL, traveling from Bandung to Jakarta in the outside (left) lane, is suspected to have brake failure as it approached the scene. The driver, identified by the initials MY, reportedly could not control the vehicle and struck the pickup truck with plate B 9718 VAF in front, triggering a pile-up involving eight other vehicles. Traffic ahead was congested due to a dump truck experiencing a breakdown on the shoulder.

Head of Cipularang PJR Induk, Kompol Joko Prihantono, said evacuation was conducted swiftly to restore traffic flow. By 20:59 WIB, one lane had been opened to traffic, and by 21:43 WIB, the two main lanes were reopen for users.

Police are conducting in-depth investigations and on-site processing to determine the exact cause of the brake failure in the container truck. Jasa Marga urged road users to regularly check their vehicle conditions and maintain a safe distance, especially when traversing the long downhill stretches on the Cipularang toll road.
