Two-day strike at Menteng Hotel

Two-day strike at Menteng Hotel

JAKARTA (JP): A second strike by more than 200 workers of
Menteng Hotel I on Jl. Gondangdia, Central Jakarta, was staged
yesterday.

The first strike, which ended on Sunday evening, was triggered
by the management's refusal of the workers' demands on wages and
benefits and the rejection of a request to form a union.

Sujito Tamtomo, head of the Jakarta branch of the All
Indonesian Workers Union Federation, said a union branch was
formed on Sunday evening with Ahmad Habib as the elected chairman
and Sugiono as his deputy.

Sujito and an employee who requested anonymity said employees
staged the second strike because the management suspended Ahmad
and Sugiono indefinitely.

The hotel management, PT Menteng Sarana Wisata, was not
available for comment. (anr)
