Two-day-old baby girl abandoned by brother in Pasar Minggu after mother dies
Jakarta — A two-day-old baby girl named Ameera Ramadhani was left by her older brother, Zidan (12), at a nasi uduk cart in front of a resident’s house on Jalan Pejaten Raya RT 01/02, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Tuesday afternoon (3 March), after the mother died during childbirth.
In a letter addressed to whoever found his sister, Zidan asked that the baby be treated as if she were his own child, explaining that he would not be able to care for her or visit her and that he did not want her future to be like his. ‘Please treat her as your own child because I will not be able to find or visit her again. I do not want her future to be like mine. Thank you,’ he wrote.
Pasar Minggu Police Sector chief, Comr. Anggiat Sinambela, said the baby was found on Tuesday at 17:30 WIB and reported to the police at 17:43 WIB. After receiving the information, officers from the Pasar Minggu Police Sector went to the scene to verify the baby’s condition with witnesses. Witnesses Dinda and Marlinah said they found a baby girl inside a shopping bag on the nasi uduk cart.
Initially, witness Dinda heard the baby’s cries from the second floor. After locating the source of the cry, they found the baby in a bag containing her on the front of a resident’s house. The baby is estimated to be two days old based on a note written by a person named Zidan, suspected of deliberately abandoning the baby at the scene.
The witnesses reported the discovery to the RT (neighbourhood association) and to the police. The information about the discovery was also shared with Polsek Pasar Minggu via the station’s WhatsApp group.
The Pasar Minggu Sector police Patrol Function (Piket Fungsi) conducted CCTV footage checks and coordinated with RT, the Community Early Warning Forum (FKDM), Pasar Minggu Health Center (Puskesmas Pasar Minggu), and the South Jakarta Social Service Office. At 19:55 WIB the baby girl was taken to Puskesmas Pasar Minggu for further medical treatment.
