An accident involving two coal trains occurred in Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU), South Sumatra, in the early hours of this morning. The incident temporarily closed the railway line in the area.

“An operational disruption involving the Tarahan Coal Train (Baratarahan trains 4045 and 4136) occurred on Track I at Talangbaru Station, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, South Sumatra, at around 2.36am local time. The track at the location is temporarily impassable,” state railway operator KAI said in a post on its official X account on Thursday (15 October 2026).

Photographs circulating on social media showed two locomotives facing one another at the scene. Several carriages appeared to have overturned and left the track.

The rails and sleepers were also visibly damaged in the accident. Personnel were at the site to deal with the incident.

“Staff on the ground are currently carrying out inspections and handling the situation to ensure the safety and security of train operations,” KAI said.

KAI said it would provide further information on tickets and the operation of trains passing through Talangbaru Station. It urged passengers to follow staff instructions.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you,” KAI said.
