Two Classrooms Collapse, SDN Students in Pandeglang Study in Kitchen for 4 Months
Two classrooms at SDN Kutakarang 3 in Cibitung sub-district, Pandeglang Regency, have experienced severe damage due to ground movement. This condition has forced students to study in the school kitchen and library. “For now, the students are learning in the kitchen and library,” said teacher at SDN Kutakarang 3, Ade, when contacted on Monday (6/4/2026). Ade revealed that the damage occurred at the beginning of 2026 and has continued to worsen until now. According to her, the unstable soil could not support the building’s weight. “It was damaged because the ground moved; the building is only one year old,” she said. Ade stated that the damage affected the classroom walls and floors, which have subsided. This condition makes it impossible for teachers and students to use. “In February, the students were moved because of concerns,” she said. The school has reported the situation to the Pandeglang Regency government (Pemkab). However, there has been no certainty so far. “There is no certainty yet on what will be done,” said Ade. Ade explained that personnel from the school construction contractor have taken action by separating the damaged building from the intact one. This step was taken to prevent the damage from spreading to other buildings. “The contractor’s handling involved cutting it off first so that the intact classes are not pulled along with the damaged ones,” she concluded.
