Mataram (ANTARA) – The West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government (Pemprov NTB) has said it stands ready to bear all medical costs for the pupils who were victims of the collapse of two classrooms at SMA Negeri 7 Mataram. The NTB Provincial Government spokesperson Ahsanul Khalik in Mataram, on Tuesday, said all relevant parties have been directed to focus on the handling of the victims. ‘The Governor of NTB has directed all relevant parties to prioritise treatment and support for the affected students, including ensuring that all medical costs are borne by the NTB Provincial Government,’ he said. According to a report from the Education, Youth, and Sports Service (Disdikpora) NTB, five students were recorded as victims of the incident. All victims sustained minor injuries and scrapes. Ahsanul, who also serves as the head of the NTB Department of Communications, Informatics, and Statistics (Diskominfotik), said the collapse occurred during the school break, so most students were outside the classrooms. Initial findings indicate that the roof structure fractured at the roof cap, which caused the building — constructed with a wooden frame and a concrete-tiled roof — to collapse. At present, a technical team from the Department of Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing, and Settlement Areas (PUPR PKP) NTB is conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the incident, while also assessing the condition of other buildings in the school environment. SMA Negeri 7 Mataram is among the schools that previously received a classroom construction programme under the 2024 Special Allocation Fund (DAK). The new classrooms built under that programme have not yet been usable, as they are still under legal proceedings. Ahsanul said that all budgets for the programme have been paid, but the classroom construction has not yet been fully completed. ‘If the construction can be completed according to plan, the students should already be able to use the new, more adequate and safer classrooms,’ he said.
