Two Civilians Hit by Stray Bullets During Military Drill

The XX/Tuanku Imam Bonjol Military Regional Command (Kodam) has confirmed that two civilians were hit by gunfire. One of the victims, a student from Padang State University (UNP) in West Sumatra, was struck by a stray bullet on Tuesday (2/6/2026) at approximately 17:05 WIB.

“It is true that there was an incident involving two of our fellow citizens who were allegedly hit by stray bullets,” stated the Head of Information for Kodam XX/Tuanku Imam Bonjol, Colonel Kav Taufiq, when confirmed in Padang on Tuesday night.

According to Taufiq, the incident occurred while soldiers from the TP 897/Singgalang Infantry Battalion were conducting training exercises. However, the military has not yet been able to confirm whether the suspected bullets originated from the TNI unit.

“At this time, the TNI is still gathering information, including conducting an investigation into the incident,” Taufiq added. Following the incident, the UNP student and another civilian were rushed to a private hospital before being transferred to dr. Reksodiwiryo Hospital (a military hospital) for surgery to remove the projectiles.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of UNP, Erianjoni, also confirmed that a student from the university was allegedly hit by gunfire within the campus area. “It is true that a UNP student was allegedly hit by a stray bullet,” he said.
