Two Chinese Firms Appointed as Waste-to-Energy Operators
The Investment Management Agency for Daya Anagata Nusantara (BPI Danantara) has appointed two Chinese companies as operators of Waste-to-Energy (WTE) facilities in Bekasi and Denpasar. The Bekasi facility will be operated by Wangneng Environment Co., Ltd, while the Denpasar facility will be operated by Zhejiang Weiming Environment Protection Co., Ltd.
Danantara’s Chief Investment Officer Pandu Patria Sjahrir said the two companies will subsequently be required to form a consortium comprising regional-owned enterprises and local companies to facilitate technology transfer.
‘The selected operator partners are expected to maintain consistent operational performance, ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, and promote sustainable engagement with local communities,’ he said in a written statement on Friday, 6 March 2026.
The two corporations passed a selection from a list of 24 candidates for the Badan Usaha Pengembang dan Pengelola Pengolah Sampah Berbasis Teknologi Ramah Lingkungan Menjadi Energi Listrik (BUPP PSEL). The selection, conducted since 2025, initially attracted around 200 applicants.
Patria said the announcement today marks an important step in managing waste into energy under the highest standards. Danantara is committed to promoting integrated waste management solutions that positively impact the environment and society.
‘We will continue to work closely with our partners, regional governments, and all stakeholders to deliver measurable progress in reducing waste and generating clean energy,’ he added.
