Two Chayotes Stolen for Iftar, Elderly Man Dies in Neighbour’s Hands
The Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Cianjur Police revealed that M, an elderly man who died after being assaulted by his neighbour, had decided to steal two chayotes from the suspect’s garden to be prepared as food for breaking the fast. The assault occurred on Saturday, 28 February 2026, in Kampung Depan Rumah Korban in Kampung Bayabang, Talaga Village, Cugenang District, Cianjur Regency. ‘The two chayotes taken by the victim (from the suspect’s garden) would be processed into food for breaking the fast,’ said Cianjur Police Chief AKBP Akhmad Alexander Yurikho Hadi on Thursday, 5 March 2026. He said the suspect carried out the assault on Saturday (28 February 2026) in front of the victim’s house. The suspect assaulted with bare hands. ‘The suspect struck the victim with bare hands and kicked him, causing the victim to suffer bruising around the eyes, head, a wound on the neck, bruising on the shoulder and arm, a bloody nose, and vomiting,’ he said. The victim managed to flee to his house. However the suspect immediately pursued and assaulted him. The police chief said the victim’s younger sibling Cucum briefly tried to intervene. The victim then showed his two chayotes to his younger sibling while walking unsteadily due to dizziness in the head. ‘On Monday (2 March 2026), the victim died at around 11:30 a.m. WIB at his home, and the victim’s younger sibling reported to the police,’ he said.
