Two caught with wrong passports

JAKARTA (JP): Immigration officials have apprehended two Chinese nationals at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport for attempting to use Canadian passports to travel to Auckland, New Zealand.

The director of immigration for supervision and operation, Zaiman Nurmatias, said Wang Yun Jing, 20, and Zheng Jin Hui, 19, both from Fujian in mainland China, were arrested at the immigration checkpoint.

"Wan Yung Jing used a passport in the name of Theodore Scott Piping and Zeng Jin Hui was using one in the name of Mike Chang," Zaiman said in a statement.

Officials received a tip concerning the men, who arrived in Jakarta on July 29 aboard Garuda Indonesia flight 859. It is believed they were attempting to use the Canadian passports to obtain a short-stay visa in New Zealand before looking for work.

They were escorted by Yu Goen Ie, a Hong Kong citizen who admitted to having received HK$5,000 for his services. (edt)
