Palu (ANTARA) - The Central Sulawesi High Prosecutor’s Office has approved the resolution of two criminal cases from Poso and Sigi Regencies through the restorative justice mechanism (MKR) after the suspects and victims in each case reached a peace agreement.

“This approval is part of the prosecutor’s efforts to prioritise case resolutions oriented towards recovery, peace, and the balance of interests between victims, suspects, and the community,” said the Head of the Central Sulawesi High Prosecutor’s Office, Zullikar Tanjung, in Palu on Monday.

The first case was submitted by the Poso District Prosecutor’s Office involving suspect Refi Hermansyah, alias Refi, regarding alleged assault as regulated under Article 466 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP).

The case began when Refi approached the victim, Nastain, at a plantation in Watutau Village, Lore Peore District, Poso Regency, on 25 May 2026, to enquire about the previously agreed coffee harvest distribution.

The conversation escalated into a dispute, leading to an assault that resulted in the victim sustaining injuries below the left eye and to the lower lip.

In resolving the case, the suspect admitted his mistake, apologised, and promised not to repeat the offence, while the victim has forgiven the suspect. The suspect also provided medical expense compensation amounting to Rp13 million, which has been received by the victim.

The Prosecutor’s Office considered resolution through restorative justice because the suspect is a first-time offender and the maximum prison sentence threatened is two years and six months, or a Category III fine.

The second case was submitted by the Sigi District Prosecutor’s Office involving suspect Moh. Alfin bin Amir, who is alleged to have violated Article 448 paragraph (1) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.

The case originated when the suspect attended a ‘dero’ dance event in Sigi Biromaru District and felt insulted after hearing taunts from several residents of Pesaku Village.

On 25 May 2026, at approximately 02:00 WITA, the suspect met the victim, Rian Candra Fadlula, at a kiosk in Rarampadende Village, West Dolo District. The suspect then grabbed the victim by the collar and threatened him, causing the victim to flee the location in fear.

The incident subsequently triggered unrest between residents of Pesaku Village and Rarampadende Village, involving stone-throwing actions at the border of the two villages.

The Prosecutor’s Office considered restorative justice because the suspect is a first-time offender with a maximum prison sentence of one year or a Category II fine.

The suspect has apologised and expressed regret for his actions, while the victim has forgiven the suspect, as documented in a peace agreement on 11 September 2026. The settlement was reached unconditionally, and the victim did not request compensation from the suspect.

In addition to the resolution of these cases, peace has also been reached between the residents of Rarampadende Village and Pesaku Village, who were previously involved in the dispute.
