Two Bridges in Tabanan to be Repaired This Year After Three Years of Severe Damage

Following the devastating flash floods of 2023, two bridges in Tabanan remain in a state of severe damage. The Tabanan Public Works and Housing Department (PUPR) plans to repair these bridges using the 2026 Tabanan Regency Regional Budget (APBD).

The Head of the Tabanan PUPR Department, I Gede Partana, stated that the two bridges slated for reconstruction are the Tuka-Cau Belayu Bridge in Baturiti District, with a budget allocation of Rp 9.6 billion, and the Tukad Yeh Ngigih Bridge in East Selemadeg District, with an allocation of Rp 6.4 billion.

According to Partana, both bridges are part of the remaining infrastructure recovery efforts following the 2023 disaster that have yet to be completed. Due to the extent of the damage, both structures require complete reconstruction, especially as they serve as essential access points for the local village economy.

“Following the 2023 flash floods, three bridges were already addressed throughout 2023 and 2024. Only these two bridges remain unfinished. We will finalise them this year,” said Partana on Monday (8/6/2026).

Work is currently underway to construct new bridges to replace the old structures damaged by the floods.

Partana explained that once these two projects are completed, the management of the 2023 disaster impacts on regency-owned assets will essentially be concluded. However, several village-owned assets still suffer from damage, such as in the Marga District, which have not yet received repair funding.

“Moving forward, the remaining issues are no longer regency-owned bridges, but rather several village assets that were severed or damaged during the 2023 disaster. Proposals have been submitted, but because these are not regency assets, funding is not yet available,” he emphasised.

Partana added that with the commencement of these two bridge projects, it is hoped that connectivity for communities affected by the disaster can return to normal, while simultaneously enhancing the safety and smoothness of resident mobility.

“Access to these bridges is vital for the community in maintaining the economic circulation within the villages,” he concluded.
