Two suspects involved in the theft of a box truck in the Kreo area, Larangan District, Tangerang City, Banten, have been arrested by officers from the Tangerang City Metro Police. The suspects have the initials S, 35, and SNR, 27.

The head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the Tangerang City Metro Police, AKBP Parikhesit, stated that the arrest began when officers were patrolling during peak crime hours in the Ciledug and surrounding areas on Friday evening (12/6). During the patrol, officers became suspicious of the movements of two individuals riding a motorcycle together.

Upon monitoring them, officers observed the suspects tampering with a box truck parked in front of a shop in the Kreo area, Larangan. Shortly afterwards, one of the suspects drove off with the vehicle. Fearing they would lose track of the suspect, officers immediately pursued him towards the Graha Raya area. “When officers attempted to stop him, the suspect tried to ram the stolen vehicle into the officers,” the unit head said on Saturday (13/6).

As a result, officers took measured, decisive action against both the suspect driving the stolen truck and the suspect attempting to flee on the motorcycle. Both were successfully apprehended and taken to the Tangerang City Metro Police headquarters. “We seized evidence from the suspects, including one stolen box truck, the motorcycle used during the crime, eight letter T keys, and several other items used to facilitate their crime,” he explained.

Initial investigations revealed that the stolen box truck belonged to a man named Sumarsono and was parked in front of the shop where he works. “We are still conducting in-depth investigations and developing the case. The aim is to determine the possibility of other perpetrators within the network,” he asserted.

For their actions, both suspects are charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code concerning aggravated theft, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison. Tangerang City Metro Police Chief, Commissioner Raden Muhammad Jauhari, urged the public to remain vigilant when parking their vehicles, both inside and outside their homes. “We urge the public to use additional locks when parking their vehicles,” the police chief said. He also requested that the public immediately report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhood via the police call centre at 110.
