Two bogus policemen shot dead

DENPASAR, Bali: Denpasar Police shot and killed two men who
allegedly posed as traffic officers in order to steal
motorcycles.

The suspects, identified as 27-year-old Widodo Eko and
25-year-old Joko Riyanto, were killed on Wednesday when they
attempted to flee from officers escorting them to the garage
where they allegedly kept the stolen motorcycles, Denpasar Police
chief Adj. Com. Helmy Santika said.

The shooting took place on a secluded street in Ubung, on the
northern outskirts of Denpasar.

Helmy said the police were still holding 28-year-old
Sukriyanto in custody, who was also allegedly involved in the
motorcycle thefts.

The three suspects were arrested two days ago, following a
tip-off from their neighbors in Suwung, who told the police the
two criminals were stashing motorcycle spare parts in their
rented house.

Locals also told police they frequently saw the two men riding
different brands and types of motorcycles. --JP
