Two Bodies from Sunken KM Nurul Salsa Identified, Total Missing Revised to 15

The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team of the South Sulawesi Regional Police has successfully identified two of the three bodies recovered from the sinking of the KM Nurul Salsa ferry. The vessel went down in the waters of the Selayar Islands regency.

Kombes Pol M Haris, Head of Medical and Health Affairs for the South Sulawesi Police, stated that the identification was completed on Wednesday (22/7) by the joint DVI team. The first body, labelled PM 62 B 01 Selayar, was identified as Hasriyati, a 44-year-old woman from Dusun Garassi, Bonto Baru Village, Pasimasunggu Timur District, Selayar Islands Regency. She was identified through dental records, medical data, and personal property matching antemortem data AM 002.

The second body, labelled PM 62 B 02 Selayar, was identified as Bau Intang, a 52-year-old man from Butabangun, Bonto Baru, Selayar Islands Regency. He was identified through fingerprint analysis and medical data, matching antemortem data AM 001.

Separately, Andi Sultan of the Makassar Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) announced a revision to the total number of people aboard the ill-fated vessel. The figure has been corrected from 78 to 76 after a verification process involving the passenger manifest, families, and the ship operator. The adjustment was made after discovering two duplicate names on the manifest and confirming that one listed individual did not ultimately board the ship. As of the latest update, 58 people have been rescued, three bodies have been recovered, and 15 individuals remain missing. The search operation for the remaining missing persons is ongoing.
