MANILA (AP): Blasts in two Philippine cities on Sunday killed
at least four people and wounded about 23 others in a sign of
rising lawlessness.
A bomb exploded in a crowded sidewalk burger stall in Carmen
town n the southern province of North Cotabato, killing a
13-year-old boy and a soldier, the local mayor said, and wounded
11 other people. No one immediately took responsibility for the
attack.
Later, in a Manila suburb, a gang detonated a grenade in a
bungled jewelry store heist, killing a robber and a guard. About
12 people were wounded.
The gang escaped after another member threw a second grenade
at police. It failed to explode.
Police said the Carmen and Manila attacks were unrelated and
called for calm.
