Two students from Bekasi, Keiza and Ravi, have secured the Garuda Scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), one of Indonesia’s most competitive scholarships with a quota of only 1,000 secondary school students. The rigorous selection process included academic assessments, leadership interviews, portfolio evaluations of achievements, and assessments of soft skills and social contributions.

Keiza was involved in various school activities, including serving as deputy head of the student council (OSIS) and participating in academic competitions in STEM, English, and debate. Her experience also included a Buddy Programme, where she helped new students overcome academic difficulties and adapt to the school environment. Additionally, her involvement in the student council led to initiating and organising various creative activities involving all students.

Keiza revealed that amidst her academic and non-academic pursuits, the school consistently helped build her confidence to face each stage of the Garuda Scholarship selection. “While also preparing steps to seize every available opportunity,” said the student from Binus School Bekasi in a written statement on Thursday (18/6/2026).

Ravi added that the support from teachers, school facilities such as laboratories, access to information on both local and international competitions, as well as intensive guidance and training, helped him to focus more and achieve his goals. “All these experiences strengthened my portfolio and made me more confident in facing each selection stage, until I finally succeeded in obtaining this scholarship,” he said.

After graduating from BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi, both will continue their education at UNSW Sydney and UBC Canada. Their story demonstrates that success is not solely about individual ability, but also about a supportive learning environment, proper guidance, and opportunities to develop at school.

Maria Karah, Principal of BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi, expressed pride and appreciation for every student who has completed their secondary education with extraordinary dedication. “Their achievements today are tangible proof of the hard work, enthusiasm for learning, and commitment they have shown throughout their journey,” she said.

This year’s graduates have been accepted at various leading universities in Indonesia and abroad, including Universitas Indonesia, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Universitas Gadjah Mada, as well as universities in Australia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States and Asia such as the University of Sydney, UNSW Sydney, Purdue University, the University of British Columbia, and the National University of Singapore.
