The Food Security and Agriculture Service (DKPP) of Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, stated that two cows from local farmers have passed the selection by the central government team as sacrificial animals for President Prabowo Subianto for Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah. “Information from DIY indicates that two livestock from Bantul passed, one each from Kasihan and Pleret areas,” said Head of DKPP Bantul, Joko Waluyo, when confirmed in Bantul, Yogyakarta, on Sunday. Previously, Bantul Regency submitted nine cows for selection by the team from the State Secretariat along with the DIY Provincial Government as candidates for President Prabowo’s sacrificial animals. “That’s the consideration from the team. I don’t know why cows from Bantul were chosen. We previously submitted nine cows, two passed; that’s the result of the team’s selection, not ours,” Joko explained. Joko added that the selection of cows from Bantul as the president’s sacrificial animals is a particular source of pride, especially for the farmers, because Bantul’s cattle are trusted to have good quality. “Bantul has been trusted by the president for several years because they pass the selection. This will certainly motivate the farmers in Bantul, because being bought by the president is an invaluable honour,” he said. Although the cattle population in Bantul is relatively small, Joko said the trust from the central government in Bantul farmers is quite significant, as evidenced by the annual purchase of cattle by the government as presidential sacrificial animals. “Moreover, the livestock in Bantul are healthy, that’s why they can pass. Our hope is that this can motivate farmers in Bantul to raise them better in the future, so that they continue to be trusted to provide sacrificial livestock for the president,” Joko stated.
