The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has approved the merger of PT Bank Perekonomian Rakyat (BPR) Ophir into PT BPR Swadaya Anak Nagari as part of ongoing consolidation efforts within the banking industry. The approval was formalised in the Decree of the Board of Commissioners of OJK Number KEP-44/D.03/2026 dated 19 June 2026, concerning the Granting of Permission for the Merger of PT Bank Perekonomian Rakyat Ophir into PT Bank Perekonomian Rakyat Swadaya Anak Nagari, which is domiciled on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman Lintas Simpang Empat Manggopoh, Nagari Lingkuang Aua, Pasaman District, West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra Province.

The Head of OJK for West Sumatra Province, Roni Nazra, personally handed over the decree to the management of the two merging BPRs at the OJK West Sumatra Office on Thursday (25/6). On the occasion, Roni stated that the merger is expected to strengthen capital and increase competitiveness, as well as reinforce the implementation of governance and risk management, so that the BPR can continue to develop its business and serve its customers better while always adhering to the precautionary principle.

"Through business consolidation, BPRs can strengthen capital and increase competitiveness, as well as reinforce the implementation of governance and risk management. This is expected to support BPRs in business development and improving service quality to customers, of course while still adhering to the precautionary principle," Roni said in his statement.

This merger action is a manifestation of the BPRs’ commitment to comply with the provisions of POJK 7 of 2024 concerning Rural Banks and Sharia Rural Banks. It is also in line with the 2027 Roadmap for the Development and Strengthening of the BPR-Sharia BPR Industry, one of the pillars of which is strengthening structure and competitiveness through the acceleration of BPR and Sharia BPR consolidation.

With the realisation of this merger, the number of BPRs and Sharia BPRs in the OJK West Sumatra Province working area as of May 2026 stands at 59 BPRs and 14 Sharia BPRs, a decrease from the previous year’s total of 63 BPRs and 14 Sharia BPRs, mainly due to similar consolidation actions by BPR groups in the OJK West Sumatra Province supervisory area and the cessation of operations of several other BPRs.

OJK urges all customers and the public to remain calm and to trust the services of the BPR industry, which continues to be strengthened through healthy and directed consolidation policies. Going forward, OJK will continue to encourage the institutional strengthening of BPRs and Sharia BPRs through industry consolidation and transformation to create a BPR and Sharia BPR industry that is more efficient, competitive, and resilient, and capable of contributing optimally to the regional and national economy.
