Two Banda Aceh-Medan flights affected by Mount Sinabung eruption

PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, at the Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport branch in Blang Bintang, Aceh Besar, has announced that two flights on the Banda Aceh-Medan route and its reverse were affected by the eruption of Mount Sinabung on Tuesday (1/9).

The General Manager of Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport, Rahmat Adil Indrawan, stated that the affected flights included one flight from Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport to Medan which experienced a delay, and one flight from Medan to Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport which was cancelled.

He explained that the cancellation and delay of flights are part of the primary measures taken to maintain the safety of both passengers and aircraft crew due to the dispersal of volcanic ash resulting from the Mount Sinabung eruption.

The operational team at Sultan Iskandar Malaysia International Airport has coordinated with airlines and all relevant agencies to ensure proper handling of passengers experiencing delays or cancellations caused by the eruption.

“For members of the public travelling through Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport to Medan, it is advised to monitor flight schedules and coordinate with airlines to confirm departure times,” he said.
