Two Austrian tourists died during a visit to Cunca Wulang Waterfall in Mbeliling District, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Sunday, 24 May 2026. They fell from a suspension bridge serving as access to the waterfall.

The waterfall is one of the tourist attractions in Labuan Bajo managed by the West Manggarai Tourism, Creative Economy, and Culture Office. The two tourists, a man and woman named Jurgen Perjul (55) and Astrid Perjul (57), are believed to be a married couple.

Information gathered indicates they fell from a 20-metre-high suspension bridge onto rocks below. The bridge, constructed of wooden planks, is approximately 50 metres long. Two tourists were seen lying on rocks beneath the bridge. It is suspected they fell due to the bridge’s deteriorated wooden planks, with visible holes where they fell through.

West Manggarai Tourism, Creative Economy, and Culture Office Head Peter A. Rasyid confirmed the deaths but is still gathering full details. ‘Austrian tourists. We do not yet know if they were married,’ he said via telephone, promising to provide more information about the accident. The tourists have been evacuated to Komodo Regional Hospital (SPBU) in Labuan Bajo.
