Two Assailants in Karangasem Beating Named as Suspects
Two of the three perpetrators involved in the beating of a young man in Banjar Dinas Pangitebel, Antiga Kelod Village, Manggis District, Karangasem, have been named as suspects. Both are currently being held at the Manggis Police Station.
“We have named two people as suspects, while the other one is only a witness,” said Manggis Police Chief, Kompol Made Suadnyana, on Tuesday (25/8/2026).
Suadnyana explained that after receiving a report from the public, his team immediately conducted an investigation and eventually arrested three suspected perpetrators of the beating that occurred on Sunday night (23/8/2026).
However, after examination, only two people were proven to have carried out the assault. The other individual was found not to have been involved and was therefore treated only as a witness.
“The suspects have the initials EGL and RUB. Both are charged under Article 262 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison,” said Suadnyana.
The incident began when the victim, I Gede Agus Putra Jaya (25), was about to shop at a stall in the Banjar Pangitebel area, Antiga Kelod Village, Manggis District, on Sunday (23/8/2026) at around 7.00 pm local time.
The perpetrators then arrived in an intoxicated state, revving their motorbike engines in front of the victim. An argument ensued, which ultimately led to the beating that left the victim with swelling on his upper lip.
A video of the assault went viral on social media. In the footage, the perpetrators are seen beating the victim in front of a house. They also threw stones at the victim.
The Head of Pangitebel Hamlet (Kadus), I Gede Darma, confirmed the incident. He said the beating took place near the Pangitebel SPBE facility.
