Two arrested for kidnapping

JAKARTA (JP): The city police have arrested two men believed to be the kidnappers of a soccer player whose father had been involved in a business dispute with them.

City Police Spokesman Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna confirmed the arrest of Ucok Siregar and John Siregar for kidnapping Budi Setiawan, a junior player with the leading football club Pelita Jaya.

He said the police both released Budi and arrested his kidnappers at their house on Jl. Ciledug Raya, South Jakarta, on Monday night.

"We believe a debt dispute is behind the kidnapping," Iman said on Tuesday

He said Budi's father Zulkifli Lubis had reportedly owed Ucok Rp 86 million (US$36,986).

Besides kidnapping Budi, he said, Ucok had also taken some sewing machines and a large range of textiles from Lubis' house. (04)
