Two Armed Motorcycle Thieves in West Jakarta Arrested After Viral Video, One Suspect a Minor
Jakarta — A brazen armed motorcycle theft gang operating in Gang Manggis XVIII Ujung, Tanjung Duren Utara, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, has caused public alarm.
The theft was captured on CCTV and the footage went viral on social media. In the recording, the gang arrived on two motorcycles. Two individuals dismounted and approached the targeted parked motorcycle, whilst two others remained on their bikes ready for a getaway.
One perpetrator wearing a black t-shirt, long jeans and a white helmet was seen breaking the target motorcycle’s ignition lock using a T-shaped key. Simultaneously, his accomplice wearing a green jacket, long trousers, a black bag and a black cap drew a firearm from his right hand.
The weapon was pointed downward as the accomplice surveyed the surrounding area. Within moments, the motorcycle lock was broken. The lock-breaker climbed back onto his partner’s motorcycle, whilst the armed suspect commandeered the stolen vehicle and fled out of CCTV range.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 21 February 2026. The victim, identified by the initials AG, had parked his 2019 Honda Beat motorcycle in front of his rented accommodation with the steering lock engaged. When he returned to use it, the vehicle had vanished. The loss was estimated at approximately Rp6 million and the case was reported to the police.
Jakarta Metropolitan Police Public Relations Chief Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto confirmed the incident and assured that the suspects had been apprehended.
“That information is correct. The Motor Vehicle Sub-Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigation Directorate has secured two suspected members of the motorcycle theft gang whose actions went viral in the Grogol Petamburan jurisdiction,” he stated on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.
The arrests were carried out on Jalan Raya Otonom Cikupa, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Monday, 23 February 2026 at approximately 09:30 local time following a pursuit. The two detained suspects were identified by the initials ANJ (18) and another individual classified as a minor in conflict with the law.
In addition to apprehending the suspects, police seized evidence including one Honda Beat Street motorcycle, two mobile phones belonging to the suspects, three T-shaped key bits, one T-shaped key handle, one homemade firearm complete with five rounds of ammunition, CCTV footage, and clothing worn during the crime.
