Two Aceh Besar SPPD corruption defendants sentenced to two years' imprisonment
Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The panel of judges of the Corruption Court at the Banda Aceh District Court has sentenced two defendants in a Surat Perintah Perjalanan Dinas (SPPD) corruption case at the Inspektorat Kabupaten Aceh Besar to a total of two years in prison, or one year each.
The verdict was read by the panel led by Fauzi, with Harmi Jaya and Zul Azmi as associate judges, in a session at the Corruption Court at the Banda Aceh District Court in Banda Aceh, on Friday evening.
The two defendants are Zia Ul Azmi, who served as Head of the Inspektorat Kabupaten Aceh Besar from 2020 to 2025, and Jony Marwan, who served as Secretary of the Inspektorat Kabupaten Aceh Besar from 2021 to 2025.
The defendants Zia Ul Azmi and Jony Marwan attended the trial accompanied by their lawyers. The trial was also attended by State Prosecutor Zaki Bunaiya from the Aceh Besar State Prosecutor’s Office.
In addition to imprisonment, the panel also ordered them to pay a fine of Rp50 million each with a subsidiary sentence of 50 days’ detention if not paid.
Terdakwa Zia Ul Azmi had already returned Rp256.8 million. Meanwhile, Jony Marwan had also returned Rp145.6 million deposited with the Banda Aceh District Court’s account.
The panel found both defendants guilty of violating Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18(1)(a, b), Paragraph (2) and (3) of Law No. 31 of 1999 as amended into Law No. 20 of 2001 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes, in conjunction with Article 20(a, c) of Law No. 1 of 2003 on the Indonesian Penal Code.
The panel stated, based on the facts and witness testimony in court, that the corruption involving SPPD at the Inspektorat Kabupaten Aceh Besar occurred from the 2020 budget year until May 2025.
The crime began when the defendant Zia Ul Azmi served as Secretary and Acting Head of the Inspektorat Kabupaten Aceh Besar in 2020.
The two defendants listed their names on all assignment orders with the aim of receiving payments from the SPPD budget.
However, the SPPD orders were not carried out by either defendant or not in accordance with the actual conditions, thereby causing state losses totaling more than Rp404 million.
The verdict was lighter than the prosecutors’ demand. In the previous hearing, both defendants were charged with one year and six months’ imprisonment.
After reading out the verdict, the panel gave the defendants, their advocates, and the state prosecutors seven days to consider whether to accept the decision or to file an appeal.
