Twelve 'ninjas' to enter court

DILI, East Timor: Local police chief Col. Andreas Sugianto says at least 12 'ninja' leaders will be brought to trial for masterminding terrorist and vandalistic acts in the capital over the past two months.

The 12 detainees "coordinated" gangs of masked men to roam the streets of Dili and terrorize pro-independence activists, stoning houses and setting fire to vehicles.

"So far, dozens of people have been arrested and questioned," he told Antara.

He identified several of those suspects as Carleto Breok, Oktavianus alias Anus, Antonio Caemaluk, Matheus, Claudio, Filipe, Ximplesio Da Casembo, Apollo Mario Alves, Alves, Joau Baptista, Manuel and Francisco Marthins.

The hunt for more suspects is still going on, he said. (pan)
