Jakarta (ANTARA) - TVRI, holder of the 2026 FIFA World Cup broadcasting rights, will present a series of events in the lead-up to the 2026 World Cup, accessible to all segments of society.

According to a TVRI press release on Thursday, the agenda represents the broadcaster's commitment to carrying out President Prabowo Subianto's instruction that the euphoria surrounding the world's largest football tournament be shared by all layers of Indonesian society.

TVRI's 2026 World Cup Broadcast Media Centre Coordinator, Ezki Tri Rezeki Widianti, said the Road to World Cup 2026 programme is part of the President's gift to the people, ensuring that global joy can be felt inclusively across the entire archipelago.

"For us, the World Cup is not just about matches. There is a sense of togetherness within it. It is a moment when people can gather, share stories, and experience the same joy," said Ezki.

"Through this road-to programme, we want the public to be part of the journey, not just watch at the end. This is part of the President's gift to the people, so that the world's joy can be felt by anyone, anywhere," she added.

The Road to World Cup 2026 agenda encompasses a number of programmes running from this month through to June, before the quadrennial football tournament begins.

One event already completed was the simultaneous launch of the Road to World Cup 2026 held across various regions of Indonesia on 1 February. Other events include engaging with residents at Car Free Day gatherings, campus roadshows, and public screenings of international friendly matches such as Brazil versus France, Colombia versus France, and Brazil versus Croatia.

Further events involving direct public participation include a football match pitting celebrities against Indonesian football legends, a public festival featuring top-tier entertainers, and an MSME culinary bazaar.

"We want the public to feel they are part of this journey from the very beginning. When match day arrives, the feeling should not merely be one of watching, but of pride in having participated in the series of events from the outset. This is the message of enthusiasm we want to build through the Road to World Cup 2026, which in its implementation involves cross-sector cooperation, including MSMEs," Ezki added.

The 2026 World Cup will be held across three countries: the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The tournament, running from 11 June to 19 July this year, marks the first time the World Cup has been hosted by three nations and the first time 48 countries will participate, up from the previous 32.

Defending champions Argentina will begin their 2026 World Cup campaign against Algeria in Group J on 17 June at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas, United States.
