TV stations roll out anniversary celebrations

JAKARTA (JP): Three television stations are celebrating their anniversaries this month with a sparkling lineup of specials. Private stations RCTI and SCTV and state-owned TVRI have laid on celebrations over the past two weeks.
RCTI will present Panggung Band 2000 featuring artists Iwan Fals, Harry Roesli, bands Sheila On 7, /rif, Padi, Dr PM and comedy group Project P. The show, which was recorded in Bandung on Aug. 19, will be broadcast at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22
The station also has boxing on Tinju Ring Emas and magician Deddy Corbuzier's show at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. The station's traditional comedy show Ketoprak Humor, with Timbul, Tessy and Nunung, will be aired at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Major films will be shown in the 9:30 p.m. slot, including Air Force One, starring Harrison Ford (Aug. 23), Batman Forever, starring Val Kilmer, Jim Carrey and Nicole Kidman (Aug. 24) and Patriot Games, starring Harrison Ford (Aug. 25).
SCTV will also broadcast Ford's The Fugitive on Aug. 21 at 9 p.m. SCTV, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, airs action film star Jean-Claude Van Damme's Sudden Death (Aug. 22), Knock Off (Aug. 23), plus two James Bond movies, Octopussy (Aug. 24) and For Your Eyes Only (Aug. 25), all at 9 p.m.
After midnight, there will be City Slickers II starring Billy Crystal (Aug. 21), Bullet with Mickey Rourke (Aug. 22), American Gigolo starring Richard Gere (Aug. 23), Ice starring Grant Show (Aug. 24) and The Long Kill starring Willie Nelson (Aug. 25).
TVRI will also be competing for viewers on its 38th anniversary. It is airing a selection of sinetron (television dramas) through Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Tirai Hitam will screen on Monday. Megatruh Merah Putih is shown on Tuesday, with Para Lelaki and Hadiah Buat Ajeng on the following days.
There is also its Film Screening Week from Aug. 21 to Aug. 28. The first is Close Contact (Amanda Douge, Grant Bowler, Kimberly Davies), followed by Backtime (Tom Baker, Adam Fitzhugh, Manda Coleman), Coyotes (Leo Gannon, Kirsten Carmody), The Joy Riders (Martin Landau, Kris Kristofferson), The Breakthrough (Donald Sutherland, Mimi Kuzyk, Corin Nemec), A Change of Heart (Andrew McCarthy, Michael Learned, Shirley Knight) and To Die Quietly (Gary Graham, Ken Nagayama, Steven Ito, Kristina Yoshida).
TVRI's anniversary will be celebrated in its auditorium with a live Entertainment Night featuring singers and comedians on Aug. 24.
RCTI's anniversary celebration is also on Aug. 24 but SCTV's anniversary celebration is on Sept. 1, with the live 10 Tahun Surya Gemilang.
A star-studded variety show titled Satu Indonesia Satu, featuring musicians Erwin Gutawa, Djadug Ferianto, singers Krisdayanti, Aning Katamsi, Rossa, Nafa Urbach and Ari Las, will be aired on RCTI's anniversary, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Regular programming such as quizzes, children's shows and entertainment news have been spruced up in line with the celebration on RCTI and SCTV. TVRI's regular quiz Tak Tik Boom (Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m.) has also been polished up on a special festive set.
The stations claim the celebrations are not only about having fun.SCTV's public relations manager Budi Darmawan said in a statement the celebration was also an opportunity to show concern for society.
