TV broadcast in Papua
From Kompas
We, the Papuans, are very unfortunate. Since Feb. 1, 2000, we have no longer been able to receive RCTI , the only private television station to broadcast here, despite the use of an ordinary satellite dish, which we bought with our hard-earned money. We cannot afford to buy a digital parabola, which is very expensive. We now, and perhaps for the rest of our life, can only watch the state-owned TVRI station and foreign TV shows that we cannot understand and which are not in line with our culture.
RCTI used to entertain Papuans and be a source of information. It is ironic when such facilities can only be enjoyed by those who live in other parts of Indonesia. We appeal to the government to make all private television stations' broadcasts available for the eastern Indonesia.
