TV and independence anniversary
TV and independence anniversary
From Forum Keadilan
I felt there was something missing on Indonesian television in relation to the 50th anniversary of the country's independence. The state-owned TVRI and the private TV stations such as TPI, RCTI, SCTV, ANteve and Indosiar should continuously broadcast documentary films about the struggles against the colonizing powers like The Netherlands, Britain and Japan in order to arouse patriotism in children as well as adults and induce them to maintain the good image of the country.
I would like to propose to the television stations to re- broadcast the film shown by TPI on Jan. 23, 1995 at 1:40 p.m. which reflected the struggle of Surabaya people in which Bung Tomo delivered highly spirited speeches. I cried when watching the film. I could not help wondering whether nowadays there are Indonesians who have the same spirit.
I would also like to suggest that foreign films be aired in their original language so that we can learn and recognize the languages. The Indonesian sub-titles should be white on a gray background. This will make it easier to read. The yellow script now used by all television stations strains the eyes.
