Tuti Nurcholifah Yasin Leads Garnita Malahayati NasDem West Java 2025-2030
The Central Board of Garda Wanita (Garnita) Malahayati NasDem has officially inaugurated Tuti Nurcholifah Yasin as Chair of the Garnita Malahayati NasDem Regional Board for West Java for the 2025-2030 term. The inauguration ceremony, held in Bandung on Saturday (22/8), was combined with the swearing-in of Garnita Malahayati NasDem branch boards from 24 regencies and cities across West Java.
Chairwoman of the Garnita Malahayati NasDem Central Board, Andina Thresia Narang, stressed that the new leadership in West Java carries a significant responsibility. Beyond increasing female representation, Garnita is expected to become a driving force in achieving the NasDem Party’s major targets for the 2029 general election.
“Today is the inauguration of the regional board and also the branch boards across West Java. There are 24 branch boards being inaugurated. This is about how we, as a women’s organisation and the women’s wing of NasDem, can increase female representation in 2029,” said Andina.
Andina explained that the NasDem Party has currently fulfilled the 30 per cent female representation mandate in legislative candidacy, both at the national parliament and West Java provincial parliament levels. However, that figure is viewed only as a starting point.
Garnita Malahayati has set an ambitious target of increasing female representation to 50 per cent by the 2029 general election. Andina is optimistic that, despite differing political challenges in each region, Tuti Nurcholifah Yasin’s leadership will be able to bring significant change in West Java.
“We have already achieved more than 30 per cent for female legislative candidates in the national parliament and provincial parliament. That is not a problem for NasDem, but how this 30 per cent becomes a starting point for us to reach 50 per cent representation,” she added.
Echoing Andina, Chair of the Garnita Malahayati NasDem West Java Regional Board, Tuti Nurcholifah Yasin, affirmed that this inauguration is a concrete step towards strengthening the role of women within the party. She emphasised that women’s presence in politics must not merely fulfil quotas or serve as a complement to electoral contests.
“Garnita does not want women to be positioned merely as a complement. Our target for the next election is not just the 30 per cent female quota,” Tuti asserted.
To achieve this target, Tuti explained that Garnita West Java will focus on the selection process and capacity building for female legislative candidates. The organisation’s main focus is to ensure that the cadres put forward possess high competence and strong chances of winning.
“Hopefully Garnita can filter legislative candidates whom we can actually seat. We do not want to merely count how many women enter parliament, but how many women we can deliver there,” she concluded.
With the management structure now officially confirmed in 24 of the 27 regencies and cities in West Java, Garnita Malahayati NasDem is committed to expanding the space for women’s political participation and strengthening cadre development towards 2029.
